Toronto-based Music for Productions has just launched a new website in response to the demand for stock music and production music library services. The new website features an innovative, modern design, more user-friendly navigation and features close to 28,000 tracks. MFP has acquired several new catalogues and expanded their offering considerably. For now clients can navigate from the old site to the new one and select either one when doing a search. The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) announced it is sponsoring the OSMO Foundation by providing financial support for the Notman House, a collaborative hub in which Montreal entrepreneurs building high-tech companies can share knowledge, exchange ideas and build collaborative networks. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today a contribution of more than 4.2 million dollars to innovative projects receiving development and marketing support as part of the second round of its 2012-2013 Experimental Stream. In November 2012, the CMF announced a contribution of more than 10 million dollars to 15 projects who received production support. In 2012-2013, the CMF invested 36 million dollars in 87 projects who successfully applied to the Experimental Stream. Since its creation in April 2010, the CMF has provided more than 95 million dollars in funding to more than 250 innovative experimental projects originating from every region in Canada. QuickPlay Media, a Toronto-based provider of cloud-based managed service solutions for the distribution of premium media to IP-connected devices, today announced the availability of closed captioning support for its Live and On Demand multiscreen video solutions. Using its cloud-based OpenVideo platform, QuickPlay ingests, extracts and encodes closed captioning data from a variety of video formats – enabling mobile TV service providers to integrate closed captioning into their premium mobile video services. Last September, the FCC mandated that all episodic content delivered over IP networks must have closed captioning, under the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010. Kobo Inc. announced today that it has exceeded 2012 market forecasts, doubling device sales and attracting more than 4 million new customers within the last six months to bring its total to more than 12 million registered users. Contradicting forecasts claiming eReader sales would decline in 2012, Kobo’s E Ink eReader sales were up nearly 150 percent in December, helping the company to carve out 20 percent of the global eReader market [source: DigiTimes]. In less than twelve months, the company launched three new eReading devices and further established its eReading services in new territories including Brazil, Portugal, Italy, Japan, Spain, South Africa, and the Netherlands this year.
