Writer – producer teams from across Canada are invited to submit their story ideas for this year’s second annual China Canada Gateway for Film® Script Competition in Whistler. Presented by the Whistler Film Festival in association with Telefilm Canada, the Script Competition introduces experienced Canadian writer/producer teams to Chinese studios. Projects should be appropriate for a budget of up to $5 million. Canadian writer/producer teams are invited to submit an application and script synopsis by September 30, 2013 for consideration. 12 finalists will be announced on or before October 31, 2013.The finalists will take part in the pitch competition at the Whistler Film Festival’s Summit on December 5, 2013. Big Blue Bubble Inc. has joined musical forces with Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Kristian Bush of Sugarland to collaborate on a brand new character for My Singing Monsters, their award-winning and critically-acclaimed title which is currently enjoying success on multiple platforms. Bush contributed vocals and mandolin for the ‘Shugabush,’ which was designed and animated by the talented artists at Big Blue Bubble. The collaboration began when Bush – who was introduced to the game by his 11 year old son – tweeted his affection for the game. Creator Dave Kerr responded, and the two eventually connected off-line to dream up a new fedora-wearing, mandolin-strumming character. Canadian cinema will shine brightly at the 70th Venice International Film Festival thanks to the latest works by acclaimed filmmakers Xavier Dolan, Bruce LaBruce and Ritchie Mehta. This year’s festival runs from August 28 to September 7, 2013. Xavier Dolan’s feature Tom à la ferme (Tom at the Farm) will be in official competition—the first Quebec film to have this honour in 29 years, after Sonatine (directed by Micheline Lanctôt and starring a then 14-year-old Pascale Bussières in her first screen appearance), which won the Silver Lion award for best first film in 1984.
