Nominations for the 5th Annual Canadian Videogame Awards, to be held at the Carlu in Toronto this April 10th will close on January 24th. This year’s show will once again celebrate the best and brightest of the Canadian videogame industry. Developers, publishers and industry leaders from across Canada will gather in beautiful Toronto to recognize the outstanding achievements of 2013. Nominations are for work developed in Canada and released in 2013, and are welcome from all parts of Canada’s game industry. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Telefilm Canada are seeking suggestions and ideas from the industry to feature Canadian productions and talent at upcoming MIPTV and MIPCOM events in 2014, the world’s premiere television markets. In 2012, Canada was featured as Country of Honour at MIPCOM. Combined marketing, public relations and media strategies heightened awareness of Canadian productions and talent as well as the country as a strong co-production partner. During the past five years, feature-length documentaries receiving support from Telefilm Canada have earned 130 selections in major international festivals abroad. The United States, Netherlands, Germany, Australia, Argentina, China and France top the list of 31 countries whose festivals have all honoured Canadian documentaries. The international reach of Canadian documentaries as a whole was once again confirmed at the Sundance Film Festival, as the feature My Prairie Home by Chelsea McMullan (National Film Board of Canada) is to be screened in competition in the World Cinema Documentary category, which showcases only 12 international films. In addition, Elliot by Matthew Baukman and Jaret Belliveau (Garage Doc Films) will be presented in the Documentary Features section at Slamdance, the parallel festival specializing in debut feature films. DigiBC will be hosting another town hall meeting at the BC Showcase in Robson Square on the evening of Thursday, February 6th. Introduced in 2010, the IDMTC legislation is set to phase out in 2015 pending a review by the BC government in 2014. Your DigiBC Committee on Public Policy is actively discussing and working to ensure the program not only continues, but is expanded to meet the current and long-term needs of our evolving industry. Telefilm Canada has announced that it is supporting the production of five feature films, two in English and three in French, through the Canada Feature Film Fund (CFFF). A total of $3.7 million in funding is being invested in the selected projects for the second quarter of 2013-2014. Please note that on September 19, 2013, Telefilm announced $12 million in funding support for nine feature-film projects for the first quarter of 2013-2014, and in an industry advisory on January 6, 2014, Telefilm announced $4 million in financing for 18 lower-budget feature-film projects. Telefilm Canada has announced its support for 18 lower budget English-language productions (with budgets under $2.5 million) from the Ontario and Nunavut, Western as well as Atlantic regions through the Canada Feature Film Fund. Montreal-based electronic signature provider Silanis Technology has announced that Oracle includes Silanis’ e-SignLive™ in its customer communications management (CCM) platform, Oracle Documaker. Independent research firm Forrester Research, Inc. made the following statement in its September 2013 report, Developing the Value Side of the DOCCM Business Case, “Add eSignature to your DOCCM solution.
