If personal data is the “new oil” of the Internet, then Big Data is the “machinery” that runs on it. Like our dependence on fossil fuels, Big Data’s current consumption of personal data is not sustainable. Individuals require privacy; their personal information must be protected in new and bigger ways. Netflix, Inc. has announced the extension and expansion of its licensing agreement with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The expanded licensing agreement includes new seasons of currently available CBC TV shows on Netflix, including Republic of Doyle, Heartland, Mr. D, Dragons’ Den and other titles. Additionally, the deal will add CBC fan-favorite Murdoch Mysteries to the service for the first time. Hilary Duff is joining forces with Duracell this holiday season to help thousands of children spending this special time of year in the hospital. The popular singer and actress has teamed up with the brand to encourage Canadians everywhere to power good and support a worthy cause. Duracell’s ‘Powering Holiday Smiles’ campaign will donate 20,000 batteries to hospitals across Canada in order to power lifesaving medical devices and the thousands of playroom toys and games that children and their families will be using this holiday season and beyond.
