V Media Group and Bell Media announced earlier today they have entered into an agreement for the acquisition of MusiquePlus and MusiMax by V Media Group, owner of V Interactions. After seven fantastic years, Vancouver Film School has decided to evolve its annual Game Design Expo into a new initiative — The VFS Speaker Series. Launching in 2014, this year-round speaker series will cater to a wider audience by focusing on games, sound design, animation, and digital design. It will be more frequent, more accessible, and offer the possibility of online streaming so speakers and attendees from around the world can join the conversation. The Canadian Interactive Industry Profile 2012 (CIIP), which provides an in-depth look at the interactive digital media (IDM) industry in Canada, was released today during Interactive Ontario’s X-Summit programming at nextMEDIA. This report follows two previous editions of the Canadian Interactive Industry Profiles released in 2006 and 2008 but proposes a revised methodology that includes a more narrowed definition of the digital media industry to provide more of a focus on companies creating true “rich interactive experiences” (in terms of content creation) and those that supply services that directly enable other firms to create those experiences. Microsoft and Team Dakota have begun inviting fans and creators who have registered on the Project Spark site to participate in shaping one of the most anticipated games of 2014 with the “Project Spark” Beta Program exclusively on Windows 8.1. Since “Project Spark” was announced at E3 in June, hundreds of thousands of fans have signed up for the closed beta, which has begun rolling out today. Starting exclusively on Windows 8.1 and available to fans on Xbox One early next calendar year, registered beta participants are welcomed to a dynamic community where players create and creators play. Bernie Custis refused to give up on his dream. When the National Football League denied him the quarterback position because of the colour of his skin, he packed up and moved to Canada. The Hamilton Tiger Cats signed him and, in 1951, he became the first black quarterback in North American professional football, the kick off to a great career and a berth in the Canadian Football League Hall of Fame. Now, Bernie is helping to break another barrier. Ageism is Canada’s most widely tolerated form of social discrimination, according to Revera’s Report on Ageism (Revera and the International Federation on Ageing, 2012). A unique new program between seniors’ care and services provider Revera and Reel Youth, a not-for-profit which empowers youth to create engaging films about important social issues, is bringing together young and old in a film project that promotes inter-generational learning and celebrates ageless spirit.
